Walnut Animal Society was founded by Lauren Bradshaw, who first gained notoriety for helping re-popularize the craft of needle felting. Through needle felting, Lauren developed a distinctive and illustrative style – a style which seemed to long for larger, more huggable characters. Thus began Walnut Animal Society – a collection of stuffed animals that are both thoughtfully designed and masterfully crafted by hand. As a designer, Lauren created original patterns that are charmingly timeless and appealing to animal lovers of all ages. As a mother, Lauren made sure the animals are safe for children and the environment. The resulting collection is suitable for the most imaginative of children and the most discerning collectors of handmade dolls.
Crafted with Care
Each Walnut Animal Society member is patiently and lovingly handcrafted in the USA, using natural and locally-sourced materials whenever possible. Not only does this mean they meet the highest standard of quality, but also that no two society members are exactly alike. And despite their charming good looks, Walnut Animal Society members aren't just for display – these animals are durable enough to withstand years of companionship. Even so, if you (or a rather tenacious toddler) manage to damage a Walnut Animal Society friend, we'll be happy to repair it for a nominal fee. Please contact us for details.
Materials are selected based on a number of exacting criteria, ranging from texture and appearance to safety and durability. Each animal is stuffed with kapok, a natural stuffing which is sustainably harvested in the rain forest. Kapok is extremely soft to the touch, lightweight, nontoxic, resistant to rot, and odorless. The exteriors are finished primarily with 100% brushed wool, which is soft to the touch and, of course, naturally handsome. Walnut Animal Society is committed to child safety. If you have a question or concern regarding the materials used, please feel free to email us at any time.
